SHIP UPDATE | OceanJet will soon serve Cebu-Maasin-Surigao and v.v. Route
The country's leading fastcraft operator: OceanJet Fast Ferries Inc is rumored to serve the Cebu-Maasin, Leyte-Surigao and v.v. Route.
It has been in the grapevine since April 2024 that OJ has been invited by the local government officials to serve the said route and it will be happening real soon.
Many are skeptical about this said route due to the sheer size of the vessel (a fastcraft) and the number of hours it will take for this voyage but this has already been done many years ago by SuperCat, WaterJet and Weesam Express that has previously served this route.
The rumored vessel that will be used in this route is the OceanJet 3 series (OJ 3,5,6) however it is still subject to change during the last minute of the final announcement in this new route. Tentative date of the launching of this new service is from 3rd to 4th week of July 2024 as there are still final preparations for this new route.
With the revival of this route, it will be a great development as it will provide more options and provide more connectivity from Surigao to Maasin, Maasin to Cebu and vice versa.
As of the moment, the only passenger ferry service from Cebu to Maasin is via Cokaliong Shipping Lines 1x a week (every Monday) while the other way going to Southern Leyte is via Hilongos Port (via Roble Shipping or Gabisan) plus you will have to ride a bus or boat service from Hilongos Port to Maasin City, Southern Leyte.
With OceanJet entering this new route, it will be a game changer and something to look forward for all passengers within Southern Leyte and Surigao Area.
