👉READ: 57 Mindanao lawmakers have collectively signed a manifesto opposing the proposal to separate Mindanao from the Philippines.

In a manifesto, the lawmakers said that the secession violates the Constitution and could pose a threat to the peace and security of the country.

“We, the elected representatives of Mindanao in the House of Representatives, firmly oppose the calls for the secession of Mindanao from the Republic of the Philippines,” the manifesto read.

“Our stance is deeply rooted in our belief in national unity, the power of inclusive development, and the promise of a peaceful, progressive future for all Filipinos, including the indigenous people of Mindanao,” it added.

Previously, former President Rodrigo Duterte and Representative Pantaleon Alvarez floated the idea of Mindanao's secession, citing the neglect by the national government for the region.

The manifesto also calls for the prosecution of individuals fostering disunity.

The lawmakers emphasized that Mindanao’s prosperity could be achieved through unity, inclusive growth, and unwavering peace, and not by secession.
