Today we broke ground on the Pasig River Expressway (PAREX) project, an elevated road that will help significantly narrow the country’s infrastructure deficit. It will complete the vision of seamlessly linking the north, south, east and west of Metro Manila. More importantly, we are setting out to deliver a transport network that will sustainably serve the current and future needs of our cities. It will be a legacy for generations to come. We thank the government and our stakeholders for the trust and support they have given us. PAREX will be built by SMC at no cost to the government. This is a significant investment we are making -- one which we may not recover for a long time -- and we will ensure that the benefits to our country far outweigh our cost. Also, it will be built along the banks of the Pasig River—not the middle. It will not cover the river. Aside from the construction of PAREX, we will be deploying our own resources to clean up and rehabilitate the Pasig River. This is a mission we take to heart, because like you, we want to our cities to be better. And we are committed to being part of the solution.
