New Year, New Goals! WHY?
Most people are excited when a new year comes because it represents a new beginning. They get to reset everything and start anew. But my question is, why? Why do you want a reset?
Even though it is a new year, you still have to pay for the loan you took, correct the mistakes you made, lose the weight you gained, and face the consequences of the sins you committed.
You cannot just forget these things and start anew because you still have to be accountable for your actions in the past year.
In my third book, one principle I shared in creating wealth is that you should “Build wealth on top of wealth.” The best way to prosper is to use what you have to create wealth. I discourage people from diversifying early because it is easier to make wealth from what you have already.
But creating wealth also means learning from your mistakes, improving from your failures, being humble when rejected, and striving to be debt-free.
I believe we should not use the new year to reset our goals but take an inventory of what we have accomplished and the mistakes we have committed, then improve!
My goal in life is not to become rich but to “excel still more!” If I am good today, I want to be better tomorrow and be much better the day after. I do not want to reset my goals because I want to build upon my gains. I do not want to forget the lessons from my mistakes. Otherwise, I may do them again, which will be expensive and wasteful. When I do these, riches will follow.
Do you want to have a reset in 2022? It is not a sin to do so, but it would be better to use your gains and losses in 2021 as a springboard to a much better life in 2022.
1 Thessalonians 4:10–11, “But we urge you, brethren, to excel still more, and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to your own business and work with your hands, just as we commanded you.”
