Before moving into one place, were you aware of the pet policies in the unit? Did you ask if pets were allowed?

While we believe that the most obvious benefits of pet ownership are love and companionship, there are number of considerations to mull over. Neighbors, just like everyone reacts to noise, smell, and even safety. Different apartments have different experiences with tenants who own pet(s).

Here are some of the most common reasons why we say NO ❌️ to your cute furry friend. 🐶🐱

1. Damage to the unit. 🛠
- While pets can be wonderful companions, they can also cause significant damage to rental properties if not properly managed. It helps to understand the types of potential damages that a pet — even those that are very well-trained - could cause chewing, scratching, digging, etc.

2. Pets can get noisy. 📢
- Although trained pets are less likely to cause commotions like this, they are still animals and they can decide to be noisy when they want to. Bark, growl, chirp, and squeak are some natural behavior for pets, and it can be disruptive (and annoying) to the neighbors.

3. They leave waste and odor. 🤢
- Even if you're taking your pet outdoors and you responsibly take care of your fur baby, accidents still happen, which could result in an unpleasant mess. There is a chance that your pet might decide to pee/poop on the carpet or the floor at the corner. This usually results in a strong smell that is pretty hard to ignore and even harder to get rid of.

4. Pet hair. ✂️
- Shedding from furry pets can leave hair everywhere. While you can do few grooming technique to minimize it, still, it's important to note that shedding is an essential and unavoidable part of your pet's (specially dogs) life, as it keeps their skin and coat healthy.

5. They can escape. 🦮
- No matter how careful you are, the chances of your pet finding its way out of the unit is not impossible. This might cause panic among other residents and/or guests.

6. Pet can cause health hazards. 😷
- There are sanitary risks associated with pet ownership. Animals can carry parasite that can be transfered to humans. People with compromised immune systems are especially vulnerable to this. Pet can also cause allergic reaction. Injury claims or property damage caused by a tenant’s pet could put you on the hook in terms of liability.

While we love animals, this is not allowed under our current rental contract. We must act decisively to ensure our property and all tenants are not put at risk by one tenant’s pet. 🧏‍♂️
