The peso skidded to another new historic low of ₱62.565 against the United States (US) dollar on Wednesday, Sept. 2, weaker than the previous record of ₱62.4 last Tuesday, Sept. 1.

According to the Bankers Association of the Philippines (BAP), the local currency fell to an intraday low of ₱62.69 and reached a high of ₱62.4, which was also its opening rate.

Total trading volume jumped to $1.828 billion from Tuesday’s $1.306 billion.

MUFG Global Markets Research senior currency analyst Lloyd Chan said rising US yields and oil prices are weighing on Asian currencies, particularly those of net energy importers like the Philippines, by worsening their terms of trade and fueling inflation expectations.

HUMINGI NG PAUMANHIN SI TORRE SA PAGGAMIT NG BUSWAY AT PEKENG PLAKA

Humingi ng paumanhin si MMDA General Manager Nicolas Torre III matapos masangkot ang isang patrol vehicle sa paggamit ng EDSA busway at paggamit umano ng kinopyang plaka.

Inamin ni Torre na sakay siya ng sasakyan nang dumaan ito sa busway at kinumpirma ring kinopya ang plate number mula sa isang hindi ginagamit na MMDA truck. Aniya, nagkamali siya sa pagdaan sa “shortcut” sa halip na dumaan sa tamang proseso.

Ipinaliwanag din ni Torre na personal niyang binili ang armored vehicle at nilagyan ito ng sirena at blinker para gamitin umano sa kanyang mga operasyon at inspeksyon.

“Humihingi ako ng paumanhin sa mga taong nadismaya sa akin,” ani Torre.
