: Pioneering construction firm, D.M. Consunji, Inc. (DMCI) helped build one of the oldest mosques in Brunei, the Masjid Sultan Sharif Ali in 1984. DMCI worked as a subcontractor for Obayashi Inc, one of the top construction firms in Japan.
The mosque, with a capacity of 2,000, was designed by Akiter Perikatan, a local architectural firm that employed Australian and Brunei architects.
In his memoir, “A Passion to Build,” the late DMCI Founder, Engr. David M. Consunji, recalled the mosque's unique design, which is dominated by three umbrella-shaped gold fiberglass domes.
