PASAY CITY โ The LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project is fast taking shape as another vital component of the project was completed and will be inaugurated this morning, Wednesday, 23 February 2022.
Transportation Secretary Art Tugade is set to lead the inauguration of the expanded Baclaran Depot of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project following its civil works completion.
The expansion project, which was funded through Official Development Assistance (ODA) from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), adds 4.2 hectares to the existing 6.4-hectare Baclaran Depot, to give way to more rail tracks and to accommodate more trains.
With the expansion of the Baclaran Depot, 21 stabling and maintenance tracks will be added to the existing 45, increasing the depot's stabling capacity from 130 to 182 Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) and increasing its heavy and light maintenance capacity from 30 to 48 LRVs.
Depot equipment is expected to be delivered by August 2022.
Just recently, on 07 February 2022, the last span for phase 1 of LRT-1 Cavite Extension was also completed, marking another milestone for the completion of the project.
Once fully operational, the LRT-1 Cavite Extension will increase the rail lineโs capacity from 500,000 to 800,000 passengers per day in its first full year of operations. The extension line will reduce travel time between Baclaran, Paraรฑaque to Bacoor, Cavite from the current 1 hour and 10 minutes down to just 25 minutes.
