𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐛𝐚 𝐯𝐢𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐋𝐄𝐗

NLEX Corp. has begun the construction of the Candaba Third Viaduct, a 5-kilometer road connecting Pampanga and Bulacan in the Philippines. The project aims to enhance safety and increase the expressway's capacity to accommodate more vehicles. The new viaduct, expected to be completed in November 2024, will expand the road capacity from three lanes without shoulders to three lanes with inner and outer shoulders in each direction. This will improve safety and convenience for motorists and contribute to the growth of trade and commerce in Central Luzon.

The president and CEO of MPTC, Rogelio Singson, expressed the belief that the project will not only boost the viaduct's capacity but also enhance safety and convenience for drivers. Luigi Bautista, the president of NLEX Corp., highlighted the company's commitment to green and sustainable engineering practices, ensuring compliance with the country's latest bridge design requirements. The new viaduct will feature piers every 20 meters, supported by two columns and two bored piles, to strengthen the structure on the swampy ground underneath.

The Candaba Third Viaduct will improve mobility and safety for commuters traveling between Metro Manila and Central and North Luzon. It will enable increased speed limits of 60 to 80 kilometers per hour compared to the current 40 to 60 kilometers per hour. The new bridge will divert Class 3 vehicles and large trucks, reducing the load on the existing structures. The project addresses the need for the construction of a third viaduct due to aging infrastructure and reduced capacity.

The Candaba Viaduct has been an essential transportation link for over 50 years, enduring natural disasters such as typhoons and earthquakes. NLEX Corp. has been upgrading the viaduct since 2005, including resurfacing, girder and deck replacements, strengthening, and the construction of emergency stops. In 2020, the company implemented measures to enforce weight limits on the viaduct to ensure long-term serviceability and safety.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has reported that the Philippines is making significant progress towards achieving efficient payment services through digitalization by the end of this year. According to the latest e-payments data from the central bank, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙝𝙡𝙮 𝙙𝙞𝙜𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙥𝙖𝙮𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙤𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙝𝙡𝙮 𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙡 𝙥𝙖𝙮𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙫𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙢𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙤 42.1 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙞𝙣 2022, 𝙪𝙥 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 30.3 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙞𝙣 2021.

Former BSP governor Felipe Medalla stated that these results indicate that the country is moving in the right direction and getting closer to the target of converting at least half of the total retail payments volume into digital form by the end of 2023. The BSP aims to transfer 50 percent of all retail payments to electronic channels and increase the percentage of Filipino adults with bank accounts to 70 percent by the end of this year, as outlined in its Digital Payments Transformation Roadmap.

The increase in digital payments was primarily driven by the digitalization of merchant payments, person-to-person (P2P) transfers, and salaries and wage payments.
