There are several disadvantages of living in a high rise apartment building that might make you think twice before buying one. So what’s the difference between a high-rise and mid-rise condominium? And how does it affect you
Mid rise condominiums are usually five to ten stories high. Therefore, you will not have to experience the fear of heights and the hassle of taking the slow elevator every time you’d like to leave your home in case of emergency.
NOISE NUISANCE
For those of you who like your privacy, mid rise condominiums have fewer residents, which means less noise and fewer parties. It also makes it easier to maintain a clean environment.
MONTHLY DUES
Because high-rise condominiums have space for more people, they are much busier and require more interaction. With that many people living in one building, you’re bound to have a noise nuisance from neighbors directly above, below, or next door to you. High-rise condominiums are also more costly due to the more luxurious unnecessary amenities and maintenance of the entire building.
EVACUATION CONCERNS
It is easier to evacuate a mid rise condominium during a fire. High-rise condominiums’ residents are usually ordered by the fire chief to remain inside their condos while a fire is being extinguished. Unlike high-rise condo’s, mid rise condo’s only reach up to ten stories whilst fire stuck ladders can only teach up to 100 feet, which like Aurora Residences, is exactly 7 story’s. During the occurrence of an earthquake, the taller the building, the more it swags. Mid rise condominiums have more stability which means minimal movement.
MOVING HEAVY ITEMS
Another advantage to consider – not just on move in day, but throughout your residential period in a condominium is moving heavy furniture and appliances. It is challenging trying to more or remove furniture up and down stairs in a high-rise building and the space of hallways and corridors are usually much narrower. You always have the option of hiring a mover, but you should expect to pay more than if you lived in a more accessible building.
TOO MANY STAIRS
There are only two options when getting in and out of a building: the elevator, or the stairs. If you live on one of the top floors of a high-rise building with heavy elevator traffic, you might have to climb the stairs with your groceries or briefcase. You may welcome the exercise in some instances, but if you need to get to your unit fast, this can become a nuisance. If you’re looking at buying your next home or investment, consider a mid rise condominium building.
Carefully weigh these disadvantages of buying a high rise condominium or apartment before you sign any documents. You could be dealing with these issues for a life-time.
