There seems to be a parallelism between the Russia-Ukraine war and the US-Iran. Notice that both US and Russia are top powerful countries while their enemies are much smaller and less powerful. But despite the 5-year Russia-Ukraine war and the less than 1-year US-Iran war, both Russia and US have so fair failed to win the war. Apparently, one of the reasons is that the smaller and weaker countries who are obviously the underdogs, were supported by their respective allies. As a consequence, the two wars have seriously affected the world economy and impoverished third world countries. See less

What could be the possible reason why in the latest SWS survey Sara's public satisfaction ratings improve to 58% which is higher than among top government officials including BBM which seems to be inconsistent from a previous survey in which 82% or 88% of the public wanted her to be impeached? Well, in my opinion, the apparent drawback against the government could be because the Marcos administration is by itself also apparently riddled with flood control anomalies considered as the highest in Philippine history. The pre-scheduled trial of the 4 Articles of Impeachment against Sara may not necessarily be for 92 trial days as suggested by Sen. Lacson as it could possibly last until December. Maybe it should not be measured by the number of days for each article to finish but how fast each article is finished. For instance, in Impeachment article IV, it may not take long to prove whether Sara’s alleged assassination plot, grave threats, and inciting to sedition against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez since Sara Duterte herself has apparently never denied making the statements shown in the recording. “(We’re not talking about criminal offense here but betrayal of public trust)," according to Sen. Drilon. Hence, what only remains now to be decided is whether Sara is guilty of betrayal of public trust based on the evidence already presented last week. Then maybe the Senate could already move on to take up the next Impeachment article by next week. So much must have already been spent in hundreds of millions of pesos for Sara’s first and second impeachment trial by now.

The highly complicated legal issue of 2/3 votes needed to arrive at a Senate impeachment decision, should be decided by the senate majority rather than by Sen. Escudero alone. Even former Associate Justice of Supreme Court Azcuna and former Justice Secretary Drilon have a difference of legal opinions on this matter. So it's apparently too presumptuous for Escudero to make at this early, a definitive statement about it. In fact at the end of the day, this issue may become so problematic that it may end up for the Supreme Court to decide. But I bet it would be decided on 'statutory construction' issue. See less
