A coalition of 120 civic groups, academics and religious organizations yesterday launched the “Bantay Impeachment” initiative to promote public vigilance during the upcoming impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. But apparently, like what said, it would be hard to convict Sara if the Cayetano DDS bloc would stick together despite strong evidence against her since the Gatchalian bloc won't be able to muster 16 votes to convict her. Surveys show that a big majority of people wants Sara impeached. In fact the House has not only impeached her but is also well prepared with a battery of competent lawyers to lay down strong evidence against Sara in the Senate impeachment trial. But many are wondering why Sara’s defense has not directly responded to the articles of impeachment. Is It because it is part of their legal strategy, or because they are relying on the votes of Sen. Cayetano’s dds bloc pursuant to “Article XI, Sec.3(6) of the 1987 Constitution which states unequivocally that no person shall be convicted without the concurrence of two-thirds of all the members of the senate” which means 16 votes needed. The Gatchalian bloc has only 12 members. Unless of course some members of the Cayetano's dds bloc would change their mind and be independently guided by strong and convincing evidence against Sara.

All headline news say, Malacanang and the Senate are both facing potential security threat according to NBI Chief Matibag. Sen. Soto said the threat to the Senate is a "clear and present danger" and that serious consideration must be taken. Sen. Lacson said the information reaching him remained "sketchy and raw" but suggested that the possible threat steamed from the power play in the Senate, flood control anomalies, inflation, rising of fuel prices and other concerns. Lacson added that "as per information, though sketchy and raw," the level of frustration within the armed services has reached to a battalion and regional level. Lacson said history has shown that coup attempts without civilian support have not succeeded, but warned that the situation could still be exploited. "The danger is, if some unscrupulous and power-hungry destabilizers among some aligned political groups would take advantage by fanning the flame of discontent, rightly or wrongly, which could trigger widespread mass movements and protests," he said. Following the reported threat, Gatchalian ordered Senate employees to work from home from Wednesday, June 10, to Thursday, June 11. In a memorandum, Gatchalian said the arrangement would allow security assessments, inspections and other precautionary measures to be carried out within the Senate premises. Hence, the AFP and PNP should mobilize all its security resources to ensure that government functions, particularly Malacanang and the Senate would not be unduly disrupted.
