In an intense showdown at Anvaya Cove International in MORONG, Bataan, PK Kongkraphan displayed remarkable composure to edge out Bianca Pagdanganan, securing a one-stroke lead with a solid 68 after 18 holes. The duel between these two golfers unfolded amidst challenging windy conditions, adding a layer of complexity to their performance.
The trio, also featuring Taiwan’s No. 1 Ya-Chun Chang, delivered a compelling spectacle, initially sizing each other up on Anvaya Cove's Mountain Nine and then engaging in a thrilling battle on the Seaside Nine. Pagdanganan surged ahead with an impressive eagle-birdie-birdie streak from No. 10, briefly seizing control at 5-under. However, a double-bogey on the par-3 No. 16 due to an overshoot cost her the lead, allowing Kongkraphan to capitalize with a crucial birdie on the 17th hole.
Pagdanganan settled for a commendable 69, while Chang navigated through a tumultuous back nine to salvage a 70, tying for third with Yi-Tsen Chou and Kusuma Meechai. The field witnessed stellar performances from other top players like Taiwanese Ching Huang and Thai Kultida Pramphun, who both carded 71s.
Despite challenging conditions, the top three finishers demonstrated exceptional shotmaking skills, reflecting the caliber of talent in the 69-player field, which comprised elite TLPGA, Thai LPGA, and LPGT campaigners. The demanding Kevin Ramsey-designed course, featuring water hazards and strategically-placed bunkers, not only showcased the players' abilities but also tested their physical and mental endurance.
Kongkraphan, with her extensive eight-year LPGA Tour experience and the Thai LPGA Tour Order of Merit title under her belt from the previous year, emphasized the importance of strategic play on the course, highlighting the significance of patience and calculated risk-taking.
