EDSA WILL BE MORE WALKABLE SOON!

The DOTr is building fancy elevated walkways along EDSA, basically skybridges for getting around. They're calling it the EDSA Greenways Project, and it's the biggest investment ever in pedestrian infrastructure in the Philippines.

Phase one is already underway, and these walkways will connect MRT-3 stations from Balintawak to Taft. But it's not just about trains! The walkways will also link up with other transportation hubs and even shopping malls, making it easier to get around on foot.
This project is all about getting people to walk more and drive less, especially with the crazy traffic on EDSA. Think of it as a way to ditch the car and stretch your legs instead. Plus, it's better for the environment!

"We're putting our money where our mouth is when we say we want to prioritize people over cars," said a DOTr official.
Here's the coolest part: these walkways will have elevators, making them super accessible for everyone, including people with disabilities, parents with young kids, and even folks who just don't feel like climbing stairs. The project is funded by the Asian Development Bank and is expected to be finished by 2027.
Oh, and there's more! DOTr is also considering a special lane just for motorcycles on EDSA. With over 170,000 motorcycles zipping around every day, this could be a game-changer for traffic flow. Right now, motorcycles have to share lanes with cars and other vehicles, which can be chaotic.

The idea is to put the motorcycle lane next to the existing bicycle lane. No word yet on when this will happen, but DOTr is already talking to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) about it.

Hopefully, all these improvements will make a dent in the massive cost of traffic in Metro Manila. We're talking billions of pesos lost every day due to wasted time and fuel. That's a big chunk of change!
