💡 𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪?
The Torrens Title is named after 𝗦𝗶𝗿 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗧𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘀, an Irish-born Australian politician who introduced the system in 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮 𝗶𝗻 𝟭𝟴𝟱𝟴. 🇦🇺
He was inspired by how ships were registered: one central record showing who owns the vessel and what claims are attached to it. He applied the same idea to land, so ownership could be proven by a single, government-guaranteed title. 📜
The system worked so well that it spread around the world, including to the 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀, where it was adopted through 𝗔𝗰𝘁 𝗡𝗼. 𝟰𝟵𝟲 in 𝟭𝟵𝟬𝟮 and is now governed by 𝗣𝗗 𝟭𝟱𝟮𝟵. 🇵🇭
So when you hold a TCT or OCT, you're holding an idea that is more than 160 years old!
