Prayer, Compassion and Unity
Nanga Sewers SLP Association of Brgy. Nanga, Pototan, Iloilo was given the opportunity to help through sewing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to protect the frontliners in this combat against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Due to the shortage of PPEs, different groups and private individuals initiated the mass production of PPEs to donate to the frontliners. THE association was tapped by these groups and individuals and provided them with materials to be used for the production .
“Sa sining tion nga may krisis kita nga gina pangatubang, kinahanglan gid ang pagpangamuyo kag hugot nga pagtu-o, pag-ulikid sa isig kapareho kag pagbinuligay. Kabay nga mag-ugyon kita tanan agud ma tapna naton ang virus. (In this current crisis that we facing, we need to pray and strengthen our faith, we must also show compassion and help one another. I hope that we will all unite to stop the spread of the virus.)”, says Remia Almendralejo Bolivar, Association President.
The members of the SLPA always start the day with a prayer before they start to sew. They pray the Oratio Imperata (prayer for protection against COVID-19) and ask for guidance, wisdom and strength for all the doctors, scientists, nurses and all the frontliners combating against the dealy virus.
“Tungod nga gin-ulikid man kami sang gobyerno paagi sa DSWD- Sustainable Livelihood Program sa pagtudlo sang skills nga kinahanglan namon kag paghatag sang makina nga ginagamit namon sa amon pangabuhian, gusto man namon ibalik paagi sa pag-ulikid man sa iban. (Since the government took care of us through DSWD – Sustainable Livelihood Program who helped us acquire the skills we need and provided us with the machines for our livelihood, we also want to pay forward by showing compassion to others.)”, Ms. Bolivar added.
The SLPA also sewed face masks and distributed to their community and frontliners in their barangay. This is their simple way of helping in this time of crisis.
The association would also like to express gratitude to those groups and individuals for giving them the opportunity to be part of the initiative in helping the frontliners.
