DAILY SNAPSHOT: Total Cases crossed the 312,000 mark at 7:00 pm with over 6,100 New Cases reported across the region today. The Philippines remains in top spot again and has reported a total of 3,379 confirmed cases based on the total tests done by 89 out of 99 current operational labs. Of the new infections reported today, 2,774 (82%) occurred within the last 14 days (25 July – 7 August). This brings Total Cases in the archipelago to over 122,000 with more than 2,100 Total Deaths. In a worrying development, there are now almost 54,000 Active Cases in the Philippines. In second spot again is Indonesia. The populous ASEAN member state reported 2,473 New Cases today – up from yesterday’s tally of 1,882. This brings Total Cases in the country to over 121,000 with Total Deaths standing at almost 5,600 – the highest in Southeast Asia. Singapore remains in third spot again with 242 New Cases – down from yesterday’s tally of 301 – as the island state continues to wrestle with migrant worker dormitory infections. According to our tally, Vietnam has reported 32 confirmed cases since our update yesterday. 3 New Cases were reported this morning while the rest were reported on Thursday evening. Malaysia has reported 25 New Cases today – up from yesterday’s tally of 15. New Cases in the ASEAN member state have remained in double digits for 2 days now. The government of Thailand today reported 15 New Cases of COVID-19 infection – 14 quarantined returnees from the Middle East and 1 from Japan. Whereas Myanmar has reported 2 New Cases. Brunei has reported 1 New Case today after going 91 days without any infections. This brings the national tally to 142. The imported case is a 21-year-old local student who returned home from Yemen via Kuala Lumpur and tested positive during quarantine. Cambodia and Lao have reported no New Cases today. Total Deaths in Southeast Asia now stands at 7,990 with 96 New Deaths reported today. All New Deaths are in 2 countries only – Indonesia (72) and the Philippines (24) – 1 (4%) in August, 4 (17%) in July, 8 (34%) in June, 8 (34%) in May, 1 (4%) in April, and 2 (8%) in March. On a positive note, there are now over 205,000 Total Recoveries across all 10 ASEAN member states.
