UNIFIED 911 CALL LEADS POLICE TO TWO SUSPECTS IN LEYTE STABBING
The Philippine National Police, under the command of PNP Chief PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., demonstrated the value of accessible emergency reporting after a 911 call helped police respond to a stabbing incident in Burauen, Leyte, resulting in the arrest of two suspects on September 25, 2026. The call was coursed through the Unified 911 system, a vital public safety service of the Department of the Interior and Local Government under Secretary Juanito Victor C. Remulla.
Personnel of the Burauen Municipal Police Station of Police Regional Office 8 immediately proceeded to a housing community in Barangay Arado, Burauen, Leyte, after receiving the emergency call, where they arrested two suspects identified by their aliases as โLeo,โ 48, and โNic,โ 38, both laborers and residents of Burauen, Leyte.
Initial investigation showed that the incident stemmed from a heated argument after the victim cautioned one of the suspects regarding their dogs. The disagreement escalated into a fistfight, during which alias โLeoโ allegedly intervened and attacked the victim with a long-bladed weapon locally known as a โsundang.โ
The victim was brought by relatives to a district hospital in Burauen for medical intervention, while the suspects and the recovered bladed weapon were taken to the Burauen Municipal Police Station for documentation and appropriate legal proceedings.
โAn immediate police response is crucial when an incident threatens the safety of our communities. We will remain ready to act on emergency calls and ensure that every intervention is carried out within the bounds of the law,โ PGEN Nartatez said.
โSa ganitong sitwasyon, mahalaga ang agarang paghingi ng tulong upang mapigilan ang paglala ng insidente. Hinihikayat natin ang publiko na gamitin ang Unified 911 at agad ipaalam sa pulisya ang anumang banta sa kaligtasan,โ he added.
The incident reflects the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations and Active Community Support, by demonstrating the importance of immediate police action and timely information from the public in addressing incidents that threaten community safety.
The prompt response enabled police personnel to reach the area, apprehend the two suspects, recover the alleged weapon, and initiate the appropriate documentation and legal proceedings.
