THE LAST 58 DAYS: THERE IS NO STOPPING THE METRO MANILA SUBWAY PROJECT
With another day less in President Rodrigo Duterte’s term, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) continues to turn yet another dream into reality in fulfillment of Secretary Art Tugade’s covenant with the Filipino people to work until the last day of office.
A pipe dream that is now turning into a reality after 50 years is the country's first-ever underground mass transport system – the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP).
Proof that there is no stopping the Metro Manila Subway is that the contracts are now out in place and the project has been funded.
In March, Secretary Tugade led the inspection of the three construction sites of the MMSP Phase 1, including the Depot of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Shaft in Valenzuela City, the TBM Stockyard in Tandang Sora, Quezon City, and actual MMSP Construction at the North Avenue Station in Quezon City.
The much-awaited ‘Project of the Century’ will stretch across more than 33 kilometers and aims to reduce travel time between Quezon City and Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from one hour and 30 minutes to just 35 minutes. Once operational, the rail line can accommodate up to 370,000 passengers per day in its first year of operations.
When it comes to fulfilling Secretary Tugade's covenant, there is no talk and drawing. We only have projects, projects, projects, and Build, Build, Build.
As the Duterte administration nears its final stretch, rest assured that the DOTr shall fulfill its mandate of improving mobility and connectivity that will provide a comfortable and convenient life to the Filipino people.
The Metro Manila Subway Project is real!
