Carina Jimenez Suarez in full, is a mother to 200 rescued cats and dogs who are now healthy and given a second chance at life in Mama’s Cradle Animal Sanctuary in Cavinti, Laguna.
She is not your typical "animal lover." She is not the kind who takes in a cute stray, posts it on Facebook, and calls it a day. Nor is she the type of “animal rescuer” to stage a rescue for sympathy and donations, only to abandon the animal once the cameras stop rolling. She’s bigger than that.
She’s the kind of person who’s willing and ready to sell her own home and properties—millions in amount—just so the sick, the abandoned, and the unwanted could have a place to be. The kind who wakes up every day with over 200 mouths to feed, vet bills piling up, and no certainty of income or how will she get through the next month. But still, she fights. Just as she always has.
I remember her saying, "Walang yumayaman sa passion, lahat abono."
Mama Carina knows this truth more than anyone else. Recalling her younger years when she was once a millionaire, living in comfort, and owning properties worth more than most people could afford. Now, she juggles all kinds of work. Venturing into hosting, live selling, running a salon, all just to scrape together enough money for food, medicine, and shelter for the animals that no one else wants to care for.
This is the real love generations have mistaken for one-time big-time sacrifices that are portrayed grandiose in soap operas and movies.

It does not make you rich. If anything, it takes everything from you—your time, your money, your energy, your security. But still, you give. Just like Mama Carina who chose to give what little she had left to those who even had less.
If anything, she never asked to be famous. She never chased the spotlight by showcasing her advocacy online. But maybe, just maybe, she deserves to be seen. She cannot be the only soldier in this war against animal cruelty.
Many claim they love animals, but let me ask you: does your love stop at the healthy ones? The pretty ones? The ones that are easy to care for?
You cannot really say you are a dog or cat lover if your love is limited to those with full legs, functioning eyes, and a ‘normal’ body.
To love is to see. And to be loved is to be known.
But how can these animals ever be known, if we refuse to see them?
Mama Carina, as she reminds us “Dream of building a castle in the sky and build it on land”, has built her castle in the sky with dogs and cats. Now she fights every day to keep it standing on the ground. But she cannot do it alone.
Mama Carina doesn’t need praises or flowery words. She needs real help. Food. Medicine. Vet bills. Funds to keep Mama’s Cradle a lasting Sanctuary.
If you’ve ever called yourself an animal lover, this is your chance to prove it.
Donations, supplies, volunteers, anything and everything matters. Because love, at the end of the day, is not what you say.
Love is what you do.
