There's something about living next to a river that lets one nurture what needs nurturing. It's the natural birthplace of many great cities, where flow and exchange have been cultivated and honed for countless generations.

How does your home inspire you? Is your living environment letting you flow and get into the zone everyday?

I found the old TVC of The Grove and smiled watching it because they really delivered on their promises.

Two more reasons why we love living in The Grove are in this TVC:

#3: Top notch security and staff.
We are spoiled silly with the concierge service here, from our guards to the maintenance staff and gardeners. Property management is efficient and responsive to the needs and demands of the residents, and on top of all that, everyone is always smiling. πŸ€—

#4: 100% backup generator
With power fluctuations affecting even the most prime villages in Manila, we can't underline enough how convenient this is. πŸ‘

What we'll miss if we leave The Grove:
#2 This amazing pool that we've been enjoying even while on lockdown.

We looked at houses nearby with pools and found the idea of having our own private pool very tempting. We could have pool parties, barbecues, even late night swims. And then came the realization: we'd have to take care of upkeep and maintenance. And repairs if needed. 😱 Compare this to living in Grove, where all that is covered by our monthly dues. We get to enjoy the pools (all 5 of them--four pool clusters in the main amenity deck and one lap pool near the gym) worry-free.

I never thought the day would come when I'd say this: Condo living is better than living in a house.

I say this wholeheartedly after 5 years of living in Grove.
And after going house-hunting as an alternative.

For space considerations, we started to explore the idea of moving to a bigger place (I.e. a house) this year. We looked at housing options nearby, with pricepoints starting at 100k-200k/month to rent and 60m-100m to buy. Most houses needed some kind of repair or upgrade and were built on tight lots that had very limited open spaces. I insisted on a house though, because I grew up in that setting and wanted the same for our daughter. I wanted to be grounded, on the earth, not high up in the air. The vision was so clear and enticing...until I realized what we would miss about Grove if we left.

#1 The great lawn
Look at that open space. Wide green lawn in the middle of the city. A gathering place for free play, picnics, fitness, taking in the sun. When the pandemic is over, this place will for sure be teeming again with laughing children, pets, doting grandmas having their daily stretching exercises. This is a unique space intended as an amenity to serve the Grove residents, and residents actually use it. It even does more than that--it brings the community together. Go down to the GL in the afternoon and you will instantly feel connected to a bigger community outside your condo walls. Even if you don't interact with anyone, you will feel that sense of belonging. I can't say the same for parks in other communities.

One of our favorite things to do in the morning: hang out in the balcony and take in the neighborhood action. We see people walking, swimming, sitting in their balconies, coffee in hand. We look at the garden and can't help but be thankful for this wonderful community. And a bonus we just noticed--our mint leaves are popping out of the railing and look how lush they are!

We've been waking up to this for the past week--our daughter sets up beds for her babies and tucks them in before she sleeps at night. It's a simple gesture of play and I love the reverence that goes with it (all the adults in the house know better than to touch or move these). She also invents her own lyrics to songs we sing on repeat, and is convinced that her high fives would be much stronger if only Mommy would stop eating her veggies. https://instagr.am/p/CIdlMNznPlt/

No gardening posts of late because I've had to mercy kill most of my plants: all tomatoes gone, lettuce half gone. It's been discouraging to say the least, and I've accepted the gardening limitations of our condo balcony and windowsill. Still there are sustained wins, like this small cup of mint cuttings that's propagated a steady supply of rooted mint, which are happy to thrive under the afternoon sun. We heavily prune all our mint plants, and use them in our puddings-- they give that fresh mint taste that just spells joy and outlasts store-bought herbs.🌿 Life lesson: Understand and accept your life garden and bet on assets that will thrive in it. Find that gift that keeps giving, and you'll have your abundance: true sustainable harvest. https://instagr.am/p/CGexoeUnSzm/
