Tech ideas: Eco toilet from Korean inventor.

A South Korean professor has developed an innovative toilet that converts human waste into energy while rewarding users with digital currency.

The toilet, called BeeVi, was created by Professor Cho Jae-weon of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST). It uses a vacuum system to minimize water usage and turns waste into biogas, which can be used to generate electricity or power appliances.

Users earn Ggool "meaning honey in Korean" digital currency for each visit, which can be used to buy coffee snacks, and books on campus. This project aims to promote sustainability and innovative waste management.

About AOP Advanced Oxidation Process, is it effective in water treatment?

The answer is YES, AOP is highly effective for treating complex and persistent contaminants in wastewater, but it is typically only used as one (1) part of a multi-stage treatment process. For complete wastewater treatment, however it must be paired with:

1. Primary Treatment: Septic, For removing solids and FOG. Primary degradation.
2. Secondary Treatment: Biological processes to degrade organic matter and nutrients.
3. Tertiary Treatment: Polishing steps like ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, or AOP.

A well-designed system integrates AOP where it is most effective—typically in the tertiary FINAL stage to target specific contaminants.
