In this volume, we examine one of designโs most contentious subjects: good taste.
Is it restraint? Layering? Eclecticism? And who exactly gets to determine where the line falls? There are as many competing schools of thought as there are ways of defining what constitutes beauty. If taste is to be conflated with beauty indeed is a question in and of itself.
In this issue, we explore this endlessly fascinating subject: how taste evolves, what it reveals about the societies that shape it, and why the most compelling interiors are rarely those that simply follow the moment.
Might we at Tatler Homes posit, that taste has never been about price or popularity. It is personal and, perhaps above all, a matter of judgement: the instinct to know what deserves to remain, what should be discarded, and, crucially, why.
Our Design Awards embody this philosophy. Faced with an extraordinary number of submissions and just three finalists in each category, determining which projects merited recognition was itself an exercise in discernment.
On our cover is Aurelia Residences by Shang Robinsons Properties Inc, a foremost example of meticulously considered design: pared back, quietly assured and led by the experience of its residents.
Elsewhere, Mariana Ugarte takes us to Three Days of Design in Copenhagen, now an essential pilgrimage for those shaping and following the design world. Wee Teng Wen of Lo & Behold Group shares his thoughts on adaptive reuse, while we delve into the work of the incomparable Anthony Nazareno, the delightful Trisha Borja-Samson and the innovative PXP Design Workshop.
Ultimately, there is no single prescription for living beautifully. There is only the confidence to make choices and the judgement to know why.
