According to PHIVOLCS (DOST) maps, most of the active fault lines (shown in red and black) are concentrated across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
When you look at Palawan and parts of Sulu, you’ll notice they have fewer mapped active faults.
📍 Because of its location on the western edge of the country, Palawan is also less exposed to typhoons — most tropical cyclones in the Philippines form in the Pacific Ocean and move westward, often hitting eastern and central areas first.
While no place is completely free from natural hazards, Palawan generally experiences fewer earthquakes and typhoons compared to many other regions.
Truly, it lives up to its title —
“The Last Frontier of the Philippines.” 💚🇵🇭
