Joy Martinez Onozawa, UN Sustainability Awardee and Carbon Modernization Project Sustainability Consultant, focuses her passion on empowering local community and overseeing the health of their environment by creating win-win strategies in managing local resources such as people’s skills, traditional culture, and natural assets.
The Megawide Carbon Modernization Project is an answered prayer for her. Twenty-two years ago, she presented a voluminous study to the City of Cebu on the Revitalization of the Waterfront of Historic Old Cebu aiming to transform the aging, now crime-ridden district into a vibrant destination, improving the economy and the status of lives of its local residences. The political atmosphere did not favor this move so she turned to each and every building owner to convince them of the viability of this project. Met with differing responses, she still had to meet someone who would take the cudgels of revitalizing a potentially beautiful destination from its present status.
Now, she is the Carbon Modernization Project's sustainability consultant, making the district's sustainable and inclusive transformation her utmost priority.
Her motto, even as a young child, has always been "to be an instrument in making people lives better by doing something above herself."
