I have been receiving urgent requests for help regarding Profriends. Though I am dismayed that this company continues to cheat its customers, I am currently unable to provide direct assistance to victims because of my mother's condition. She is 82 years old and now bedridden following an accident resulting in a fractured wrist and forearm. I am rushing the processing of the sale of our house and lot in Quezon City to help make ends meet, as well as overseeing the caregiver whom I hired to help her. My quick advice, though, to all victims would be to do the following:
1. Form yourselves into a group. It is easier to negotiate a refund from this company if you demand for it as a group.
2. Familiarize yourselves with the laws on this matter.
3. Get a lawyer to help you. I would recommend you seek assistance from Bayan Muna Representative Carlos Zarate.
4. Make sure that you have valid grounds for a refund. A personal financial or family emergency, for example, does not qualify you for a refund under the law. But developer's failure to deliver the unit on time and as scheduled, as well as double sale of your unit to someone else, are valid grounds for a refund.
