April 9 is a reminder of what was once asked of a nation and of the brave individuals who chose to stand for it. Today, we look back on Bataan and the sacrifices made in the face of uncertainty.
But beyond history, it asks something of us, too. What does it mean to care for our country today? Maybe it’s in how we show up, how we choose to live with integrity, and how we choose to care rather than look away.
The future is not only inherited. It is shaped by what we do with what has been handed to us. May today be a reminder for us Filipinos to take responsibility, and to do what we can—however small—for the country we share.
