THE BATAAN-CAVITE INTERLINK BRIDGE 🌉🇵🇭
The Longest Bridge in Southeast Asia is on its way!
• The feasibility study has been completed.
•Work on detailed engineering design is now at 34%.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), led by Secretary Roger G. Mercado, met with interested stakeholders in the first interagency steering committee for the Detailed Engineering Design (D.E.D.) of the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge Project, to connect the Calabarzon Region to Central Luzon along Manila Bay.
Local leaders from Bataan and Cavite, as well as other stakeholders, were given the opportunity to express their concerns at the first meeting of the interagency committee on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, as detailed engineering design work for this DPWH flagship infrastructure project is now at 34%, according to the February 2022 progress report.
The goal of this interagency meeting is to gather issues and concerns from all stakeholders to share with the DPWH and the Consultants team in order to anticipate some potential challenges as we move forward with the detailed engineering design, which is expected to be completed in early 2023, according to Undersecretary Sadain.
Earlier, Asian Development Bank (ADB) Country Director Kelly Bird reaffirmed the bank’s 100 percent commitment to DPWH projects, including the Bataan Cavite Interlink Project, not only for the D.E.D. stage, but also for the construction phase, which he expects to start shortly.
The project will transform the Philippines, particularly Bataan and Cavite, through improving connectivity and expanding economic prospects for these areas.
It will not only have an economic impact, but it will also strengthen family ties as more time can be spent with loved ones, and it will allow more people to see the beauty of Bataan and learn about our country’s history while enjoying beautiful scenery and clear water, according to Secretary Mercado.
Governor Garcia stated that the project will not only connect Bataan and Cavite, but also Region 3 and Region 4A, and therefore the National Capital Region, three (3) of the Philippines’ fastest expanding regions.
For the D.E.D. of Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge Project, funded by the Infrastructure Preparation and Innovation Facility (IPIF)-Additional Financing ADB Loan No. 3886-PHL and under contract with the Consultant, T.Y. Lin International in collaboration with Pyunghwa Engineering Consultants, Ltd., some timeline adjustments were made. Renardet S.A. and DCCD collaborated on this project.
The soon-to-be-largest and longest notable bridge will be the fastest land route between Cavite and Bataan, cutting travel time from Central Luzon to Southern Tagalog from five hours to 20 to 30 minutes at 60 kilometers per hour.
