RealTalk๐ก: The real value of being close to everything
May 1โs coming up, Labor Day.
And I was thinking about this the other day. Why everything feels lighter when youโre on break.
You wake up and youโre not immediately calculating time, traffic, or how long itโs going to take to get somewhere.
Thereโs less resistance in the day.
Less hesitation to step out. Or even just the option to stay in without thinking twice.
I remember noticing this years ago too, right after I graduated, when I was choosing between job offers. Some were farther, some paid more.
Around that time I came across a study in happiness economics called the commuting paradox.
People with longer commutes tend to report lower life satisfaction, even when theyโre earning more.
And it makes sense when you think about how often that time shows up in your day.
Which is why proximity matters more than we think.
In the city, everythingโs already within reach.
And in township communities, itโs designed that way, so your daily needs, your routine, your movement donโt feel like a constant effort.
You feel it in how your day flows.
