Want a delicious drink that can ease your cold this rainy season? Calamansi juice might just be the answer.
Calamansi is a common part of Filipino cuisine as it can be used as condiment for pancit canton and arroz caldo; as sawsawan (Filipino dip) combined with soy sauce or patis for your chicken inasal, lumpia, or inihaw na baboy; and even as beverage through its juice.
Drinking calamansi juice has its nutritional benefit as it stimulates growth, especially among children, and can strengthen immunity. You can also use it for weight loss as it has the ability to not only boost the metabolism but also eliminate many of the toxins in the body that can contribute to fat storage.
Cultivating calamansi is easy to do as the plant grows well in cool and elevated areas and in sandy soils rich in organic matter. Waterlogged areas are not suitable for cultivation because calamansi plants cannot tolerate too much moisture.
Calamansi trees will start to bear fruit one or two years after planting. To harvest, pick the fruits from the branch, either by hand or by using a pair of scissors. Take extra care to prevent damage to the branches or to the leaves.
