Heads up, motorists!
Starting July 2024, you’ll only need one radio frequency identification (RFID) tag for all expressways. This is intended to shorten queues in tollway plazas and encourage cashless transactions.
Luzon expressways are operated by Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) and San Miguel Corporation (SMC). Currently, motorists are required to use two different RFID tags in Luzon expressways: Easytrip (for MPTC) and Autosweep (for SMC).
MPTC operates the Cavite Laguna Expressway, C5 Link, Cavite Expressway, North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), NLEX Harbor Link, and Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX). Meanwhile, SMC operates in the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Skyway, Skyway Stage 3, Southern Tagalog Arterial Road Tollway, Tarlac Pangasinan La Union Expressway (TPLEX), Muntinlupa Cavite Expressway, and Ninoy Aquino International Airport Expressway.
Test runs for the new RFID implementation already began in January.
RFID registration is free and may be done online.
