In a significant move, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has proposed doubling the withholding tax on cash withdrawals for non-filers—from 0.6% to 1.2%.

This means non-filers withdrawing over Rs 50,000 in a single day will face higher deductions on the entire amount.

The proposal is part of the upcoming Finance Bill 2025-26, aiming to enhance tax compliance.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has intensified its efforts against the illegal to***co trade by seizing and destroying counterfeit and non-duty-paid ci******es valued at Rs. 180 million in Jhelum.

This operation, led by the Regional Tax Office Rawalpindi under Chief Commissioner Tehmina Aamer and Chief Coordinator IREN Aqeel Ahmed Siddiqui, underscores the government's commitment to combating tax evasion and dismantling illicit networks.

The destruction was carried out in accordance with the Federal Excise Duty Rules, 2005, ensuring transparency and adherence to legal protocols.

According to the National Assembly Standing Committee on Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, a staggering number of 111 illegal housing societies have been discovered in the federal capital, in clear violation of legal procedures and regulations.

During their deliberations, the committee addressed several concerns, including the adverse effects of housing societies on the environment, the sewage problems in Islamabad, and the environmental damage caused by Monal Restaurant.

Recognizing the urgent need for action, the committee strongly urged the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination to launch a comprehensive media campaign aimed at enforcing the ban on plastic bags.

Furthermore, the committee extensively discussed the issue of Monal Restaurant's sewage system negatively impacting the Margalla Hills National Park, expressing deep concern over this matter.
