He started at 18 with one idea. A decade later, Forbes noticed.

In 2015, eighteen year old Fahad Shahbaz looked around and saw that young Pakistanis had no real voice in the decisions shaping their future. So he built one.

The Youth General Assembly started small. Today it runs as a 96 member assembly, modelled on Pakistan's own Parliament, where young people debate policy and send real recommendations to government. Not symbolic. Not a photo op. Actual policy work.

This year, Forbes named Fahad to its 30 Under 30 Asia 2026 list under Social Impact. Combined with the Diana Award he received in 2023, he's now the only Pakistani to hold both honours.
Outside of YGA, he's Managing Partner at Rehnuma Law and Focal Person at the Prime Minister's Youth Programme, where he works on policy that reaches over 60 million young Pakistanis. He's also represented Pakistan at the UN, the World Economic Forum, and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, where he cast Pakistan's official vote at the Commonwealth Youth elections.

From one idea at eighteen to a Forbes list at twenty nine. This is what happens when you decide young people deserve to be taken seriously.

A recent fire safety audit conducted across Karachi has exposed significant shortcomings in the city's building safety standards. The inspection found that only 47% of the 783 commercial and residential buildings surveyed were substantially compliant with fire safety regulations.

The audit was ordered by the Sindh Government following the tragic Gul Plaza fire on M.A. Jinnah Road in January. Authorities assessed buildings across all seven districts, examining approved building plans, emergency exits, fire extinguishers, and overall fire safety measures.

According to the report:

370 buildings were substantially compliant.
298 buildings were partially compliant.
115 buildings were classified as non-compliant.

The audit also highlighted several critical deficiencies:

408 buildings lacked approved building layouts.
455 buildings were not constructed according to approved plans.
416 buildings had no emergency exits.
310 buildings did not have portable fire extinguishers.
239 buildings were identified as high-risk.

Among the districts, District Central had the highest number of high-risk buildings (103), followed by District South (65). Keamari showed the strongest overall compliance, while Korangi recorded the highest number of substantially compliant buildings.

Officials warned that unauthorized changes to approved building plans often block access routes and reduce fire compartmentalization, making evacuations more difficult during emergencies. The findings underscore the urgent need for stricter enforcement of building regulations, regular safety inspections, and improved emergency preparedness to reduce fire risks across Karachi.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has abolished the mandatory No Objection Certificate (NOC) requirement for extending commercial property leases, making the process faster and more convenient for property owners and investors.

Previously, commercial leaseholders had to obtain an NOC before applying for a lease extension, often resulting in lengthy procedures and administrative delays. With this requirement now removed, applicants can expect a more streamlined and efficient lease renewal process.

The move is aimed at reducing unnecessary paperwork, improving ease of doing business, and creating a more investor-friendly environment in Islamabad's commercial real estate sector.
