"Floating solar is very convenient because it can just be put on top of the water, and if you need more electricity you can put on more solar panels," says Mr Huang.

Floating solar is already in use at a number of sites around the world, but on lakes, rather than the sea.

Historically superpowers have jostled for supremacy above the Earth. America and Russia vied for dominance in the 1950s and 1960s. The Russians put the first man in orbit. The Americans landed a man and planted their flag on the Moon a few years later.

In the 1970s a golden era of cooperation was forged culminating in the construction of the International Space Station (ISS), which began in 1998.

Along with 13 other partner nations, the two superpowers built what is now the largest structure in space. It is not owned by any one nation, and each depends on the other to operate.

Archaeologists believe analysing the grains could highlight how diets changed.

They also hope the pottery will give an insight into trading or gift exchanges across the Channel.

Gary Brogan, MOLA Project Director said: "The A428 excavations are an amazing opportunity, we are getting to see the big picture of life in the past across the region.

The plans include solar panels fixed to steel and aluminium structures that will be up to three metres tall.

There will also be perimeter fencing installed along with CCTV monitoring and cables will need to run underground to a power station to the south of Crossing Lane.

It's the kind of feature that might just have trapped evidence of past microbial organisms.

Perseverance has drilled a mix of volcanic and sedimentary rocks that should tell the story of the crater and the lake it once held. Examples of those rocks are now in the depot on a flat piece of terrain dubbed "Three Forks".

But the downpours and massive flooding that devastated much of the west early this year have plumped up the state's watercourses, making this year's firefall picture-perfect.

Wednesday's freezing temperatures did not deter park visitors, who either sat, knelt or stood atop sheets of ice with cameras in their hands.

"The pictures I've seen are just gorgeous," amateur photographer Terry Cantrell told CBS News, the BBC's US partner. "Everybody wants to have their own, so this is what I'm trying to do."

Keith Emerick, from Historic England, said it was "truly remarkable".

Located four miles outside Helmsley, the farm site was known to be the location of a medieval grange built shortly after the Cistercian abbey at Rievaulx, which was founded in 1132.

The site was managed by the abbey until its dissolution by Henry VIII in 1539.

Despite this established history, the recently completed dig turned up some surprising archaeological finds, according to the North York Moors National Park Authority.

There are already a number national space agency missions tracking CO2. Nasa, for example, flies its Orbiting Carbon Observatories; Japan runs its GoSat mission; and China has TanSat.

But these generally make large area maps of variations in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere; they're not really set up to hone in on super-emitters at the scale of an individual industrial complex.

The Sun's energy can be collected much more efficiently in space because there is neither night nor clouds. The idea has been around for more than 50 years, but it has been too difficult and too expensive to implement, until maybe now.

The game-changer has been the plummeting cost of launches, thanks to reusable rockets and other innovations developed by the private sector. But there have also been advances in robotic construction in space and the development of technology to wirelessly beam electricity from space to Earth.

Mr Vernon-Jackson added the council intended to repeat the exercise at Lakeside car park "to drastically reduce the electricity bills which are enormous".

The council said it had a total capacity exceeding 6.3MW, equating to more than 20,000 individual solar panels and able to provide power to 2,000 homes.

The council said by the end of 2024 it hoped to reduce its carbon footprint by more than 3,000 tonnes per annum.

The camera is mounted on the world’s largest optical telescope in the Canary Islands.

Quaoar was discovered in 2002 and is around 690 miles (1,110km) in diameter, which is about half the diameter of Pluto.

In addition to simple ices such as water, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, ammonia, and methane, Webb sees several other compounds, including carbonyl sulphide and the more complex organic (carbon-containing) ice methanol. And there are hints too of chemical species with multiple carbon atoms, such as acetone, ethanol, and acetaldehyde.

It is much easier for astronomers to see these targets in space when they're gases. Webb is breaking new ground by seeing them in the solid state, as ices.
