On the dark beaches of Culebra, one of the oldest travelers on Earth still drags herself ashore in the moonlight. 🌊 The tinglar, the giant leatherback sea turtle, can weigh over a thousand pounds and has been nesting on our shores since long before there was a Puerto Rico to nest on.

Not long ago, we nearly lost her. Poaching and lost habitat pushed the leatherback to the edge, until Boricua volunteers began walking those beaches at night, guarding the nests one by one, season after season. 🐢 Because of them, the tinglar still returns to Culebra every spring.
