In Jinan, China, a 50-meter-high inflatable dome was installed over a construction site to reduce dust and noise pollution.
The structure covers about 20,000 square meters and is fully enclosed using constant air pressure to keep its shape. This design blocks dust particles from escaping into nearby neighborhoods and helps reduce the noise from heavy machinery. Unlike traditional barriers, the dome doesn't need internal supports, creating more open space for workers inside. It's also temporary and can be set up or removed quickly, making it ideal for short-term construction projects in urban areas. Officials say the goal is to protect both the environment and the people living nearby. It's an unusual but practical solution, especially in dense cities dealing with public complaints.
Would you support inflatable domes like this in your city, or is it too much?
