NEW AIR TRAVEL DECREE ANNOUNCED.
Overnight a new Air Travel decree (ORDER NO 4957-A /2021) was released by the government which will take effect from 00.01 on the 17th May 2021. It confirms that travellers from the UK can now visit Portugal.
IN the State of Calamity decree the following is relevant to Air and Land Travel - Resolution of the Council of Ministers no. 59-B / 2021
-measures applicable to air traffic, airports and land, sea and river borders are amended.
A negative RT-PCR test is required for entry in mainland Portugal.
Fully vaccinated travellers to Madeira may also present complete NHS vaccine certificates or the small NHS wallet cards as a condition of entry instead of a negative RT-PCR test.
In addition the Decree now allows travellers from the EU/EEA Schengen area to visit Portugal for Tourist reasons. However there are still some Countries, including some from Europe, where travel is not allowed unless for essential reasons. THESE ARE BRAZIL, SOUTH AFRICA, INDIA, CYPRUS, LITHUANIA, NETHERLANDS, SWEDEN AND CROATIA.. Anyone arriving from these countries are required to quarantine for 14 days.

These rules also apply for people travelling overland through the Spanish/ Portuguese Land Border.

The decree also covers a number of sporting events which gives exemption to competitors arriving from certain countries.
