🚨 Over 1 MILLION people just applied to stay in Spain.

Spain's extraordinary regularisation programme has received 1.17 million applications · more than DOUBLE what the government expected. It's one of the biggest immigration developments the country has seen in years.

What it means for those who qualify: ✔️ Legal residence in Spain ✔️ The right to work and sign employment contracts ✔️ Contributing to Social Security and the formal economy

But here's what you need to know 👇

This is NOT a new visa anyone can apply for. If you're living in the US, Canada or the UK and planning a move to Spain, this programme doesn't apply to you · it was created for people already living in Spain who meet very specific requirements.

For new applicants, the real pathways are: 🇪🇸 Digital Nomad Visa 🇪🇸 Non-Lucrative Visa 🇪🇸 Work permits 🇪🇸 Family residence permits

The bigger picture? Spain is betting on immigration. The country needs workers, wants more people in the formal economy, and its immigration system keeps evolving.

If moving to Spain is on your mind, knowing which residence option actually applies to you matters more than ever.

Spain has two doors. Most people try the wrong one. 🇪🇸

The Non-Lucrative Visa means exactly what it says: non-lucrative. You are not going to work on it. People assume they can keep their remote job quietly running in the background. They cannot.

If you work remotely for clients or an employer outside Spain, you want the Digital Nomad Visa. Different visa, different rules, different tax treatment.

Income, tax and the trap most people fall into — swipe for the honest comparison. 📌

Moving to another country is exciting, but it can also bring a lot of anxiety.

Kenneth shares what it felt like to sell his house, ship everything he owned to Portugal, and still not have his residence visa in hand. In the middle of all that uncertainty, he had to learn how to quiet the worry, focus on what he could control, and trust that things would work out.

One of the biggest challenges was bringing his dog with him. While there is plenty of information about people immigrating, relocating with a pet can be much more complicated than expected. After a lot of research, Kenneth found a community of pet owners traveling to Europe who shared the cost of a private flight so their pets could travel safely and comfortably.

His story is a reminder that even when the process feels overwhelming, the right mindset, the right support, and a bit of persistence can make all the difference.

Dreaming of moving abroad but wondering how long the process might take?

For Damon and his family, the decision came in May. They started working with Viv Europe in June, and by December, they had their visas and were living in Portugal.

Their motivation went beyond changing countries. They wanted their 10-year-old son to grow up with a broader perspective, experience different cultures and become a true global citizen.

Their journey moved faster than most, but it shows what can happen when you are fully committed, well prepared and supported by the right partners.

Watch Damon share how his family turned the idea of moving abroad into reality.

Moving abroad requires more than a visa. It requires humility, curiosity, and the willingness to adapt.

When you choose to live in another country, you are also choosing to learn its culture, understand its habits, respect its way of life, and make an effort with the language.

That does not mean giving up who you are or forgetting where you came from. It means recognizing that immigration can make you feel uncomfortable and vulnerable at times, and accepting that this is part of the experience.

The right mindset is not: “How can I make this country work exactly like home?”

It is: “How can I learn to build a meaningful life here?”

Yes, even the six-year-olds may speak better Portuguese than you. Stay humble, keep learning, and enjoy the journey.

Radha's first plan did not work out, but her dream of moving to Portugal did not end there.

She initially applied for the D2 Business Visa, but her application was rejected. Instead of giving up, she reassessed her options and decided to take a different route.

With the support of Viv Europe, Hada changed her strategy to the D7 Visa, gathered the required documents, prepared a new application, and applied again.

This time, the result was different: her D7 Visa was approved.

A visa rejection can feel like the end of the journey, but sometimes it simply means that the original strategy was not the right one. With the correct guidance, careful preparation, and a visa route that better matches your circumstances, there may still be another way forward.

Your plans may change, but your goal does not have to.

For Matheus, moving from Brazil to Portugal was about much more than changing countries. It was a search for freedom, safety, peace of mind, and a better quality of life.

Today, as a Operations Manager at Viv Europe, he helps other people navigate the same journey he once experienced himself. He understands the doubts, fears, paperwork, and expectations that come with starting a new life abroad because he has been through it too.

Portugal gave him the freedom to enjoy everyday life differently: walking around with greater peace of mind, building a new routine, discovering new opportunities, and feeling more secure about the future.

Relocating to another country is a major decision, but you do not have to go through the process alone.

Our team can help you understand the available visa options, organize the required documents, prepare your application, and plan your move to Portugal with greater confidence.

You landed in Portugal. Now what?

Getting the visa is only half the move. What comes next is a sequence, and doing it in the right order saves you months of stress.

Before you land, you should already have your NIF, a Portuguese bank account, accommodation and your visa documents in hand. These are usually part of the visa application itself.

Your first week: get a Portuguese phone number, confirm your address, check your AIMA appointment, and save copies of your visa and entry documents.

Your first month: register at your health centre, confirm your NISS, set up utilities, and update your address wherever it's required.

Then the appointment that matters most. Your visa is not your residence permit, the permit is issued after AIMA. Attend your appointment, bring updated documents, and keep your application receipt.

While you wait: complete any pending registrations, look into exchanging your driving licence, put the utilities in your name, and keep every document organised.

Save this for your arrival week. And if you'd rather not track it alone, we help you prepare, relocate and complete your residency process.

Save this before you start your application. 📌

Most of the pile is obvious. The two that catch people: your criminal record certificate has an expiry date, and an untranslated or un-apostilled document doesn't count as submitted.
