The Azorean 🍍 was introduced to some Miguel in the mid 1800s, it is grown in greenhouses, and goes through a special Labour intense process, which results in a small crown and a more nutritious and tasty fruit. See 2nd link for more written details and history in English.

If you like to participate in races whether you're a professional athlete or not here's one happening and Sao Miguel and a great reason to visit in December. Not to mention that the city is going to be looking beautiful with all the Christmas lights that will have been lit on December the 8th.

"The 62nd São Silvestre de Ponta Delgada is a running event taking place on December 12, 2026, in Ponta Delgada, Azores. It features two running courses and one walking route, including a Mini-Run of 1.3 km for younger and adapted sport categories, a main race of 6.2 km for other age groups, and a 4 km walk.

The race is open to both federated and non-federated athletes across multiple age categories, from children to veterans, including adapted sport participants. It offers individual and team classifications with trophies and monetary prizes for various categories.

You need at least 7 days to enjoy Sao Miguel. If you're really on vacation mode 2 weeks is ideal. Even with two weeks I promise you there's still a lot you will not see. Don't waste your time breaking up your 7-day trip into two or three different stays, many accommodations like ourselves, provide a 10% discount for anyone staying 7 days or more. Also Ponta Delgada has a tourist tax, it's 2 Euros a day per person for the first 3 days, when you move around to a different location you get hit by that tax again for each location.
