Good morning all,
I just wanted to update everyone following the damage caused by Storm Kristin last week, which may not have been widely reported in the foreign press.
Last Tuesday night, our area was hit by an unprecedented and extremely violent storm, with winds reaching 208.9 km/h. This left over one million people without power, caused significant damage across the region and, sadly, resulted in the loss of nine lives.
Throughout last week we were frequently without electricity, internet and mobile signal, so I apologise if anyone tried to contact us and was unable to do so.
I can, however, reassure you that we were able to contact all clients whose properties suffered any significant damage, and these issues have either been dealt with already or are currently being addressed. We visited all properties following the storm, so if you did not hear from us last week you can rest assured that only minimal damage was found at your property — perhaps a broken flower pot, an uprooted bush, or other minor issues that we can easily resolve.
There are still a small number of houses without electricity, but this is expected to be resolved today. Most properties were without power for around three days, so we advise discarding any items left in freezers.
Unfortunately, the bad weather is forecast to continue for the next 15 days, with very heavy rain expected. However, there is no indication of a repeat of the storm, which was the worst ever recorded. We are visiting the houses frequently to keep an eye on things and will report back should any issues arise.
I would also like to make clients aware that any non-urgent works may take a little longer than usual to be carried out. The area closer to Leiria was hit much harder, with hundreds — if not thousands — of buildings left without roofs, and local builders are currently fully occupied assisting those who were most seriously affected.
It will take a few days for normality to return, but please rest assured that we are alert and that your properties are in good hands.
Kind regards,
Richard, Bruno and Carolyn
