One of the things I love most about this job? It takes me to some of the most beautiful corners of the Algarve — and every now and then I get to reward myself with a coffee and a view like this one.
Today, after meeting a potential new client, I stopped for lunch right on the beach in Armação de Pêra. It's a spot I already know and love, but there's always something new to catch my eye.
That's the thing about looking after homes up and down this coast — no two days, and no two views, are ever quite the same.

We got a call about an Algarve home that had been sitting closed up, unchecked, for far longer than anyone intended. Life got in the way. It happens.
From the outside, nothing looked wrong.
Inside was a different story. Dark mould spreading across the ceiling in an upper sitting room. Green algae streaking the shutters. And it wasn't just one spot — it had taken hold in more than one area of the house.
Nothing had broken. No pipe had burst. This is simply what happens when a home sits shut up, unaired and unchecked, in this climate. The humidity that makes the Algarve beautiful is exactly what mould needs to take hold.

🏡 Home Watch Tip #1: A door that "locks" isn't always locked

The Algarve has just been named the burglary capital of Portugal — the Faro district recorded more home break-ins than anywhere else in the country so far this year, and the GNR is warning that empty summer homes are the prime target.

Here's something many homeowners here don't realise. Most Portuguese doors latch when you pull them shut — but latched is not locked. Until you turn the key and throw the bolts, that door can be popped open in seconds with a simple tool. No smashed glass, no noise, no sign of forced entry.

This photo is from a client's home. The door was closed, but not bolted. That was all it took.

When we check a property, this is one of the first things we look at — are the doors actually bolted, are the shutters secure, does the house look lived-in rather than empty and waiting. The small things that quietly tell a burglar "no one's home."

👉 The simplest tip we can give you: never just pull the door shut. Always turn the key and throw the bolts — every single time, even for five minutes.
