An Alentejo monte among the olive groves of Alqueva 💚
In the hills surrounding Lake Alqueva, where olive groves stretch across the landscape, this monte was built in 2024 from the remains of an old ruin.
Set within almost 1.2 hectares of land, the property is home to around 180 olive trees (which produced nearly two tons of olives in 2025) and stretches down towards a well and a small stream, with its longest boundary fully fenced for keeping animals. Around the house, a separate garden creates an intimate outdoor space with a lawn, deck, and covered parking with solar panels.
The house is completely off-grid, self-sufficient in water and electricity through solar panels, batteries, and its own borehole.
The lake is just 800 metres away on foot, making the water a natural part of everyday life. At night, the landscape takes on another dimension beneath the Dark Sky of Alqueva, one of the best-known destinations in the world for stargazing.
Monsaraz is around 30 kilometres away, while the beaches of Alqueva, Évora, and the Spanish border are all within easy reach.
