For the 4th year in a row Portugal wins as Best European Destination. 


The World Travel Awards are considered as the the equivalent Oscars awards but for Tourism and year after year we are getting used to seeing Portugal between the winners.


This year the country was distinguished with 21 awards from which we highlight the renewal and confirmation about Portugal being the Best European Destination, Porto the best City Break Destination in Europe and Lisbon the best European Cruze Destination.




Portugal novamente eleito (pelo quarto ano consecutivo) como o Melhor Destino da Europa na edição 2020 dos World Travel Awards. 

Conhecidos como os "Óscares do Turismo", Portugal arrecadou 21 prémios no total, entre eles a cidade do Porto reconhecida como Melhor Destino 'City Break' da Europa e Lisboa eleita como o Melhor Destino Europeu de Cruzeiros.

Facts from oficial verified sources

23 % less Houses sold and 7,8% price increase



According to our National Statistic Institute during the second quarter of 2020 the number of houses sold was less if compared to the first quarter, 23% to be exact.

These are the first oficial facts, consequence of the pandemic and the confinement that took place throughout the country. 

Even if we compare with the previous year, the drop is 21,6 % less houses sold.



To put things in context, for us to find a similar market performance we need to go back to 2016.

In the second quarter of 2020 33.398 houses were sold, this when 43.352 were sold in the first 3 months of the year. 

As for prices, those continue to grow even if the increase is now slower.

INE (our National Statistic Institute) also reports an increase of 0,8 % and 7,8% when compared with last year.



Curiously enough this is still the highest increase registered since data is being compiled.

The exception goest to monthly rents in Long Therm Rentals due to the amount of Short Rentals that were leveraged and based on Mortgages and loans that were forced to adapt due to the colossal drop in Tourism.
