The Portuguese real estate sector has been a key player in the country's growth over the last decade. However, recent government actions, such as over-regulation of rentals, over-taxation of short rentals, or the shut down of the golden visa scheme, are causing instability and uncertainty. The possible end to the Non Habitual Residency program is yet another challenge that investors in the sector may face. Developers, construction companies, and other real estate stakeholders have done miracles in Portugal. We don't need help, but we also don't need more challenges and mis-management. Let's hope for a more stable and supportive environment for this crucial sector. We need the political power to start listening to the experts and stop making popular political decisions.
