In Portugal after you agree on a price you sign something called a CPCV and you hand over ten percent of the purchase price as a deposit. If you change your mind for any reason after signing that contract, that money is gone. On a 600,000 euro property that is 60,000 euros you never see again. I have watched this happen to American buyers who did not understand what they were signing. Your lawyer must complete all due diligence before you sign, not after. 3 1/2 Years Ago my wife and I (two Texans from the United States) were living in Singpaore for work.

My wife had decided she was done with the corporate world and wanted to move, but we both had a feeling the U.S. wasn’t going to be the place we moved back to.

So we did our research on YouTube of course. Found some awesome people sharing their life experiences around living in Portugal.

At first it seemed too good to be true. So we looked at several other countries before making the final decision to move to Portugal.

Well…it turns out the life our friends shared about Portugal was all true.

We’ve now raised our family here for the past 3 1/2 years.

We’ve made lifelong friends, we live near the ocean, we enjoy the sunshine most days out the year (although this year was a bit more rainy) AND most importantly we feel safe and our kids feel safe here.

So if you are an American parent or a parent from anywhere in the world we hope you consider Portugal as the culture, the people the life has been very pleasant over the past 3 1/2 years for us.
