Cabanas is fast becoming the hub of the East Algarve and is constantly being sympathetically improved by the local Council. If anywhere in the Algarve is on the up without being destroyed by high rise buildings Cabanas de Tavira is the place. You need to put it down in your diary or journal as the place to visit. Even out of season you will find a good international community, making it a year round destination for all classes of people and all nationalities. If you want to go sea fishing it no problem. There are many small boats in the lagoon and the Marina at the west end. As you would expect Cabanas with a fully developed community has everything you need at hand. Down at the east end you can hire bikes to explore the area and book all kinds of excursions and coastal cruises. There are banks and well spaced out cash points so there is no need to keep too much money on your person. The Beach
The Beach(Praia) is a European blue flag beach and of all beaches in the Algarve is the favourite of the Northern Portuguese. It just has that special quality that makes one resort more popular than any other. Cabanas island beach is reached by a 2 min boat ride has 3km of golden sands. Cabanas is an ideal base for exploring the Algarve with regular train and bus services running along the coast. Cabanas has something for everybody and particularly the family and couples. There is a plethora of good restaurants and cafes that offer delicious traditional Portuguese cuisine and wines at affordable prices. There are some restaurants with famous reputations for their superb fish dishes. If you like clams and oysters, you can sit in one of the cafes on the front and see the pickers collecting them on the opposite shore of the lagoon. These catches are delivered to the local restaurants for your culinary delight. Local dishes include Chicken Piri-Piri and some restaurants do a steak on the stone, a massive lump of fillet beef served on a piping hot marble stone that you cut up and cook to your own liking. A must for all visitors to Cabanas. Eating our in Portugal is far cheaper than at home. A typical 3 course meal for two with a bottle of wine is less than €50/£45. Bars
The Village has dozens of bars so you are sure to find one that suits your needs. Most pubs serve most well known drinks like Guinness, Budweizer etc at far cheaper than Irish/English prices. Also if you drink shorts be careful as bars don’t measure and tend to give you far more than at home. Shopping
Cabanas is a relatively small village but has plenty of small shops. Some shops are tourist shops but not in your face but a lot are exclusive clothes shops, sunglasses shops and jewellers. There are 3 very good supermarkets in the village with 2 being a 2 minute walk from the apartment. They have a lot of English brand foods and drinks and most have bakeries for fresh bread and buns. Alcohol and soft drinks are far cheaper than home. Activities
There is a wide range of activities for families or couples. There are many water parks loated around the Algarve including Aqualand www.aqualand.pt , Aquashow www.aquashowpark.com , Slide and Splash www.slidesplash.com . There are also animal parks such as Zoo Marine www.zoomarine.com and Krazyworld Zoo www.krazyworld.com . It is possible to get busses to most of these parks from beside the train station which is a five minute walk from the apartment. Every summer there is a festival in Cabanas with the main street closed down over a weekend and people selling many different arts and crafts. Everything from wooden carved objects, to jewellery, to leather goods to sweet stalls and kids rides. Spain is only 30 minutes by car with busses to Seville available from beside the Train Station. Other towns within 20 miles boast more beautiful beaches, nightclubs and even casinos. Most bars in Cabanas can organise taxis for you if you need them. Tavira
Tavira is the nearest town and is about a five minute drive. Taxi numbers are available in the apartment. The closest bus stop is a minute walk from the apartment and will take you to Tavira. A taxi to Tavira would cost €10. In Tavira there are far more shops, many restaurants including Chinese and Indian. There is also a Castle at the top of the town with high walls you can walk up. Tavira is a really nice place at night. During the summer hundreds of locals and tourists come to sit in the local square and eat and ice-cream while watching the entertainment on the stage. Most nights there are singers, bands or magicians. Tavira also has a big shopping centre opened in 2010. It boasts a big supermarket, a food court with over 15 different types of cuisine and many different types of shops. Airport
