Since Donald Trump's return to power, there has been a notable rise in U.S. citizens applying for asylum in Ireland. Between 2017 and early 2025, 110 Americans sought international protection there. While most applications were denied, some were approved, especially for non-U.S. parents with U.S.-born children.
