When people meet each other, incredible things can happen. Ideas sprout, new friendships begin and old friendships get a new start, collaborations produce results and even love blossoms. We provide spaces where this magic can happen. For already 50 years we create places, always anchored by IKEA, where the many people meet. We call them meeting places. And we collaborate with local communities, te

nants and partners, to ensure our meeting places bring value to people, communities and the planet. Today we run 34 meeting places in 13 different markets that welcome hundreds of millions of visitors each year.

It’s here! 🎉

The insights we’ve been exploring in Life in Communities 2026 are now live. And one thing stands out:

Play has a much bigger role to play than we might think (pun intended 😉).

Across six countries, we looked at how people spend their time outside the home and what makes those moments feel meaningful. 💛

In this conversation, Ingka Centres CEO Sebastian Hylving and Head of Commercial & Digital Kajsa Gihan reflect on how play can help create more vibrant communities, stronger connections and richer everyday experiences.

More than half of people believe play is becoming less common in today’s world. But perhaps that makes it more important than ever.

Think you’ve forgotten how to play? You’re not alone.

As our lives get busier, play is becoming harder to prioritise. The result? A growing “play gap” that is affecting our creativity, wellbeing and sense of connection.

In this year’s Life in Communities Report, we explored how people want to spend time outside the home and what they expect from the places around them. The results reveal a growing desire for experiences that bring more joy, connection, and togetherness into everyday life.

This World Environment Day, we’re celebrating the power of small actions 🌍

Earlier this year, colleagues at Avion Shopping Park Ostrava took steps to make an impact when they partnered with IKEA and joined local students for a community clean-up!

From collecting litter around the Avion Ostrava Meeting Place to exploring recycling and responsible waste disposal, the day was a reminder that creating a more sustainable future starts locally, and change is best made together. ♻️

At Avion Shopping Park Ostrava, this year’s SWAP proved once again that small exchanges can make a big impact.

In just two weeks, Avion Ostrava:

👋 Welcomed 1,089 visitors ready to swap
👚 Gave 1,141.7 kg of clothing a second life
📘 Shared 408 books to new readers

And it didn’t stop there 💫Together with University Hospital Ostrava, sewing threads were collected to help create textile holter monitor pouches, which are due to be produced by those in Heřmanice Prison, supporting healthcare needs while also enabling social inclusion.

A simple concept with growing impact, and a community that keeps showing up in a sustainable way 💛

When people come together, something special happens 💫
At Livat Xi'an, we saw this up close. A guided run bringing together sighted runners and runners who are blind or have low vision, side by side.

What began with questions became understanding. And understanding is where real connection starts.

For Melody Tian, Community Engagement Leader at Livat Xi’an, the run made two things clear:

🟡 Listening brings people closer

That’s why our goal is to keep creating experiences that respect differences and make more people feel included. Because the more people feel truly welcome in our Meeting Places, the more those places come alive.

We’re thankful to local IKEA, Li-Ning and Starbucks store for partnering with us on this journey and we can't wait to create more experiences like this. ✨

🥐✨ This week, we celebrated Fettisdagen - a small but much-loved Swedish tradition 🇸🇪

If you’ve lived in Sweden, you know it’s not just about eating a semla. It’s about choosing your favourite bakery, sharing it with friends or family, and enjoying a coffee together. And of course, debating whether almond paste or vanilla cream is the better one 😉

It creates one of those simple yet special moments - colleagues catching up, families taking a break together, and lots of smiles (and powdered sugar!).

It’s traditions like these that bring culture, comfort and community into everyday life 💛
