Lotus at Joo Chiat has its ground breaking days way back around 2000. In the year 2002, Lotus at Joo Chiat was awarded the prestigious URA Architectural Heritage Award. The stars of all the units at Lotus at Joo Chiat are the 17 conservation shophouses which were painstakingly restored and conserved to its former glory with the main theme of Peranakan flavours .

Much attentions were given to the wooden floors, bright courtyards, beautifully carved screens as well as the fittings and furnishings. Modern and matching appliances make the kitchen both a delight to look at as well as it is perfectly functional. The layout and connection between the kitchen and the backward, as well as the centre courtyard, store room or the helper’s room, and the subsequent seamless covered connection to the dining and living areas makes it truly a joy simply moving around the this conserved shophouse.

The backyard behind the kitchen in itself is not big. It’s enough to accommodate a couple of

On days of nice weather and especially at early evenings on weekdays and on weekends, one can enjoy the sight of families getting together, tenants having casual chats standing in the communal garden, children playing Badminton, having a ball game or toddlers simply playing their toys outdoors.
It’s like watching a mostly expat community basking in the local Kampung spirit in a mixed of historic conservation setting. It’s really quite a sight. Relaxing and peaceful family orientated rather out of this world in the context of Singapore.

There are only a few condominium estates where one can enjoy living in or using a conservation house or Shophouse as their clubhouse or entrances. A few condominium estates having conservation houses or Shophouses includes the Aristo, the Seaview, Draycott 8, Attitude@Kim Yam Condo, The Light at Cairnhill.

But for one single development to retain as many as 17 shophouses as part of the residential live in units, there are probably only 2 condominiums in Singapore with such features. They are Lotus at Paya Lebar and Lotus at Joo Chiat.

In Lotus at Joo Chiat, there are 17 conservation shophouses fronting Joo Chiat Road. These beautifully restored conservation shophouses form a Long part of the perimeter of Lotus at Joo Chiat. The opposite side of the condo is fronted by its modern 4 storey apartment block. On the further end of the condo is a fenced up side while the end nearer to Joo Chiat is the entrance to the basement car park as well as Se unity guard post where residents can enter and exit on foot.

In terms of the ratio of the number and land occupied by the conservation shophouses to the modern apartment block, Lotus at Joo Chiat must be the condo with one of the highest ratio. 17 conservation shophouses gracing it’s main frontage and carefully restored. The conservation shophouses are originally only 2 storeys but the current owners have added one more floor with the space at at the attic. ​Lotus at Joo Chiat is an award winning residential project which comprises of 17 two-storey shophouses with attics, and another 32 modern apartments in a separate designed to blend in with the conservation shophouses.

The 17 white and pastel colored conservation shophouses at Lotus at Joo Chiat front the rather quiet road with a personality of its own. Out of the 17 two storey shophouses, a shophouse at the corner is utilized for communal purposes. The ground floor of this corner shophouse has been converted into a management office, cosy and beautifully decorated Peranakan theme breakfast and reading area, complete with dining tables, sofa, refrigerator and toaster.
