Changi Village Hawker Centre

What it’s like: Reopened after a ten-month, $5.2 million upgrade courtesy of the National Environment Agency, this food centre largely still looks the same: the original blue metal roof façade has remained intact throughout the renovation, with many of the enhancements done internally, with features such as better ventilation for stalls, more efficient seating (the rectangular seating plan offers double the amount of seats compared with the previous round tables) and improved toilet facilities. Located close to Changi Point Ferry Terminal (the main transfer point to Pulau Ubin), it’s convenient for weekend fishermen and residents living in nearby HDB estates like Pasir Ris and Tampines looking for supper. Most stalls operate until midnight – if you’re there after dark, don’t be surprised to see some ‘ladies’ of the night in the parking lot.

What to eat: There’s a higher proportion of Malay-cuisine stalls here than at most other hawker centres, and Changi Village is hailed as a nasi lemak haven by most locals. Of the more famous stalls in the centre, we recommend International Nasi Lemak ( #01- 57) for their crispy and juicy fried chicken, lemongrass-tinged pandan rice and chunky otah; the chicken at Mizzy’s Corner ( #01-26), on the other hand, is a little more lacklustre, with somewhat powdery otah, though we can see ourselves having platefuls of their grainier pandan rice and fragrant sambal. Note, however, that service at the two stalls is particularly slow – perhaps a tactic to keep a queue and buzz around each – it took over 20 minutes to get our food at both places, even with just five people ahead of us at 2pm. Serving sizes are a little lacking for the $3.50 price tag; otah is an additional $1.

If you come in a group, supplement the nasi with a plate of the Malaysian-style Ipoh hor fun ($3.50) from Weng Kee ( #01-19), which comes out much faster. The narrow and flat rice noodle come in a thick gravy, topped with steamed chicken and red-roasted char siew. At the other end of the hawker centre in Block 3 (away from the parking lot and bus terminal; we recommend a seat here as it’s a bit more breezy), there’s western stall Charlie’s Corner ( #01-08) with a rowdier atmosphere, decent steaks, fish and chips, plus an impressive list of craft beers in bottles and on taps

Parc Komo Pricing from $6xxK
WHERE SUN SHINES THROUGH THE LEAVES,
AND LIGHT DANCES, AND CASTS A GENTLE GLOW.
That’s the magic of Komorebi.

Parc Komo condo is a freehold low-rise residential development in an exclusively private housing estate, near Changi Airport. It is located at the junction of Upper Changi Road North and Jalan Mariam, beside rows of semi-detached houses in a quiet neighbourhood and will likely be the most affordable upcoming freehold launch.

If you don’t mind being tucked away at the eastern corner of Singapore in exchange for a private place with a soothing ambience inspired by the Komorebi experience, then Parc Komo condo is for you. Here you find an oasis of seclusion and calm, surprisingly so considering how near this spot is to Changi Airport & Changi Business Park, about 5 minutes drive away.

It has the advantage of having a land size of 201,877 square feet, one of the harder-to-find larger ones for a new freehold project currently. This allows for a resort-style development with a full range of facilities, lush landscaping and gardens, and lower unit maintenance fees. The previous Changi Garden featured a row of shops along the side facing Upper Changi Road North. The new Parc Komo condo will incorporate this retail component as well of 32,990 sq ft of commercial space. There’ll be 28 shops in this lifestyle hub, quite a nice size for neighbourhood shopping that serves the surrounding landed estate too.

More importantly, it makes it more convenient to live here. If all your basic needs for daily living, like groceries and F&B, can be found at your doorstep, then it matters less that you are not near an MRT station.

Launched in July 1997, the 66-hectare or Changi Business Park is JTC Corporation's second business park following the International Business Park in Jurong East. The Changi Business Park comprises a mix of high technology business, data and software enterprises, research and development divisions and knowledge intensive facilities.

The Changi Business Park is located near to Changi Airport, the Aviation Distri-Zone and logistics facilities. This simplifies transportation and logistics arrangements for businesses leading to significant cost savings.

The business park is also close to Singapore Expo, one of South East Asia’s largest exhibition centres and easily accessible to the Central Business District by rail via the Expo MRT Station and by road via the Pan Island Expressway and the East Coast Parkway.

Completed in 2012, a large area of 71.07-hectare Changi Business Park would open as a mixed-use development project. Comprising a retail shopping mall, office building, and hotel building, the project was redeveloped by a joint venture between Ascendas Land and Frasers Centerpoint. Construction of the project was undertaken by Japanese general construction contractor Nakano Corporation.

Investors can lease land sites from JTC Corporation to construct their facilities.

SINGAPORE - The crown Jewel of Singapore has been shortlisted in this year's World Architecture Festival (WAF), an annual competition considered the Oscars of the architectural world.

Jewel Changi Airport, which opened to the public in April this year, has been nominated for the Transport Completed Buildings category at the awards.

It will go up against eight other projects, including the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station and Barangaroo Ferry Wharf in Sydney, Australia.

Designed by a consortium comprising award-winning architecture firm Safdie Architects, as well as architects from RSP Architects Planners and Engineers and Benoy, the centrepiece of Jewel is a 40m indoor waterfall alongside a five-storey garden with more than 2,000 trees and 100,000 shrubs from all over the globe.

It took four years to transform an open-air carpark into a 10-storey complex with shops, restaurants and attractions for visitors.

Ms Charu Kokate, principal at Safdie Architects, tells The Straits Times that her team is thrilled by the nomination as Jewel is a special and unique project for them.

She says: "Jewel Changi Airport has helped reimagine the centre of an airport as a major public realm attraction echoing Singapore's reputation as a City in a Garden. Our nomination for the WAF award is a great honour. We're proud of our work and hope that we win."

The property development division of Chip Eng Seng Corporation unveiled its Parc Komo mixed development in Changi yesterday.

CEL Development said the freehold project is inspired by the Japanese concept of Komorebi, which celebrates the blend of nature and order.

It has an average price of about $1,450 per square foot (psf) and occupies a land area of about 202,000 sq ft with 10 five-storey blocks totalling 276 units. There are also two levels consisting of 28 commercial units.

Apartment sizes range from 452 sq ft for a one-bedroom apartment to 1,905 sq ft for the largest five-bedroom luxury penthouse.

The pricing starts at $663,000 for a one-bedroom unit, $871,000 for a two-bedder and $1,294,000 for a three-bedroom unit. The public preview is on Saturday.

Parc Komo is in District 17, a region earmarked for development and rejuvenation in the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) Draft Master Plan 2019.

Chip Eng Seng Corporation chief executive Raymond Chia said: "The rustic charm of Changi and the exciting masterplan for the area are major draw cards for Parc Komo."

Investors can look forward to rental opportunities given its proximity to Changi Business Park, Changi International Logispark, Changi Aviation Park and the upcoming Changi East Industrial Zone. Nearby recreational amenities include Changi Point and Jewel Changi Airport.

Parc Komo will be accessible via the upcoming Loyang MRT station on the Cross Island Line, expected to be completed by 2029.
