By the end of the weekend launch, 393 of 566 units of Penrose were snapped up, amounting to almost 70% of project sold. 1 bedroom starts from $788,000, 2-bedrooms from $943,000, 3-beeder from $1.33 million and 4-beeder from $2.11 million. The selling prices works out to $1,500 to $1,700 psf. Developer attributed the positive response to timing and sensitive pricing among main factors. Market observers have ascribed this to "pent-up demand" after Singapore's two-month circuit breaker upended sales and planned launches. But other reasons given for the surge in new home sales were more buyers parking their money in property, which they see as a safe-haven asset amid an uncertain economy and volatile markets, and record-low interest rates making it seem a "good time" to get a home loan.
